MORPHOLOGICAL, PALYNOLOGICAL AND ECOLOGICAL STUDIES OF MEDICINAL, ENDEMIC GENTIANA BOISSIERI SCHOTT. KOTSCHY EX BOISS. (TURKIYE)
Abstrack

Abstract. Gentiana boissieri Schott. Kotschy ex Boiss. is an species local endemic with a narrow
distribution to Turkey. The morphological, palynological and ecological properties of this species
were investigated. When morphological measurements of investigated species are compared
with Flora of Turkey, the some differences have determined. Eventually, full description of these
species was given. Pollen morphology of Gentiana boissieri was studied using light micrscopy (LM),
scanning microscopy (SEM). The shape of the pollen grains was oblate-spheroidal. The apertures
were 3-zonocolporate. Porus shape was oblate-spheroidal to spheroidal. The sculptural pattern
of exine was striate-reticulate. Muri were usually thick long running parallel to the colpus, lumen
usually deep, irregular in shape. In this study it was analysed that the plant prefers clayey textured
soil, poor in calcium carbonate, being neutral and containing varying amounts of organic matter
being very rich in nitrogen. This species grows on nonsaline soils.
